About Beez Kneez

Established in 2010, The Beez Kneez was built from the ground up in Minneapolis, MN. Owner Kristy Lynn Allen started from humble beginnings delivering her aunt and uncle’s honey on bicycle. As she gained skills and knowledge in beekeeping and grew her hive numbers, she established her own independent supply of honey. At the same time, her and her team managed over a hundred colonies, sold honey to several retail locations, online and at farmers markets, and built a pedal-powered,community honey house - centered around the bicycle-powered honey extractor she invented, the Beez Kneez Honeycycle.

After 11 incredible years serving the bee community at the Beez Kneez Honey House in Minneapolis, she moved Beez Kneez’ headquarters to the farm in 2021. Trade River Ranch is owned by her, and her partner Kyle. Located in the St. Croix River Valley just 7 miles south of the town of Grantsburg, WI, it is also home to a small flock of egg laying chickens, 4 brush management goats, The Royal Tenenbaums, 2 cats, Frau and Petunia, and many wild birds and animals including bear, bobcat, fishers, raccoons, otters, mink, weasels.

Our beekeeping ethos:

We are non-migratory beekeepers that use organic mite control methods and focus on producing high quality honey and other value added products.

We raise our own queens, selecting for winter survival, mite resistance, gentleness and honey production.

We educate beekeepers, both new and experienced on how to properly manage mites and keep bees in a responsible and sustainable manner

Industrial agricultural in the US is increasingly unhealthy and unfriendly for our bees and many other pollinators. Therefore, we are very selective and careful about where we put out our bees. Our host sites are made up of climate-conscious farmers and land stewards that we can trust to provide safe, productive homes for our bees. For this reason, we are proud members of the St. Croix Valley Food Alliance. Our members grow some of the best farm-fresh food in the country. By supporting farmers that grow sustainably and chemical free, you are helping ALL pollinators to have safe places to live, you will have access to healthy food and, in turn, be part of shaping a climate friendly future.

The pollinator friendly farms that host our hives include Blackbrook Farm, Burning River Farm, Common Harvest Farm, Johnson Family Pastures, Greenteeth Farm, Turnip Rock Farm and Cosmic Wheel Creamery, and Wild Paths Collective

Farming in a way that protects pollinators in a broader agricultural system that works against us is really challenging. Please make an effort to buy your food direct from them as much as possible. It is one of the best ways to support pollinators, both native and our honey bees.
